The Alpha World Historical Society

Alpha World is a virtual community first opened to the public in late June 1995. Those who provided content to this world are too numerous to mention, but they know who they are and I want to thank them, new and old.

The AWHS Museum is a celebration of these endeavors. You may want to peruse the Museum. It's located in Alpha World Prime: 1501.4n 500e 1.05a 284 or Read the Grand Opening Speech made on January 17, 1998.

In 1997, the purpose of this page was to give those who have chosen to spend the better part of their waking moments moving rwx files around, establishing relationships and exploring this wonderful place. Now it is a thriving Society (organization) making a difference! This is a Society devoted to furthering the preservation of the familiar world we have came to know and love.

Now in 1999, we have successfully used this page, our expertise and resources (thank you HamFon!! and AWCOM for our AWGZ!) to preserve AW in it's Historic state and have formed a Society toward that end and to make an impact on "the powers that be". Also I, for one, am happy that we have been sucessful in having an active role in helping "the powers that be" to implement this end. Read the AW Historical Society Charter.

The Archived AWHS Teams List and all their information can be found on the the Archived Documentation Page.

Mauz is a long time member of the AWHS and an ardent follower of Cool and Preservable Sites! See her History website. Now she is our Site Archivist. If you have any sites you would like to have the AWHS archive for future preservation, please email them to her at: mauz@tnlc.com

Digigardner (Bruce Damer, of the Contact Consortium) donated this letter of invitation to Alpha World, the initial letter sent to all World's Chat users, in August 1995, to introduce the first interactive, graphically-based community ever on the Internet!

Read the Letter from Sakamoto, an "old" user who was grateful for the work of the AWHS.
